More book images
Some more images from my book “The girl who lost her listening ears” in an applique style. I’m torn between a sideways or top down view of the bed so I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Upcycled lampshade
This make was a quick upcycled lampshade after I managed to get a great lamp base from a freecycle group but wasn’t happy with my plain lampshade. I wanted a quirky lamp for my craft room and cream wasn’t going to cut it! So I took a small existing lampshade I already had, some wool from my craft stash, some pom pom trim in a gorgeous hot pink and my trusty glue gun to transform from drab to fab. First I glued some wool from my stash (similar to this in teal) to the inside of the lampshade. Then, I wound it round and round the shade until it was…

Sewing Cabinet
I was super excited when I found this sewing cabinet on ebay for £60. After checking with the seller that it worked, I clicked “buy it now” and it arrived just in time for lock down to start. I knew that I’d have to do something to cover the mid-century laminate styling and decided to use chalk paint and replace the handles. Not having primer and not wanting to buy anything new, I sanded it down and then used 3 coats of white chalk paint similar to this one. Then I took off the old handles, used wood filler and replaced with these cute button handles I had found on…

The girl who lost her listening ears – Page 1
I’ve been working hard on artwork for my new children’s book – The girl who lost her listening ears – and have tried a patchwork style as I’m not much of an artist. I’m toying with a border as it looks a little bit like stitches – below are a straight and wiggly version – which do you prefer? I’d love to know what you think, please add a comment below.

Crochet Rainbow
I’ve always wanted to learn how to crochet and decided that lockdown was the perfect opportunity to try. After much um-ing and ah-ing, I decided that a rainbow was the perfect project to start to add some colour to our neighbourhood while we couldn’t go out. I followed this video by Crochet by Bev and, after one restart, soon got into the hang of the double crochet, increasing stitch pattern with the result: one colourful rainbow and a small amount of my wool stash used! I then chained some crochet strands in the top colour (red) to hang on a stick from the garden for a rustic look and it…

Excerpt from my book about listening…
An excerpt from The Girl / Boy who lost her/his Listening Ears, a children’s book about losing (and finding) “listening ears”, inspired by P & J who lose theirs a lot! “Poppy…Poppy…POPPY!” yelled her mum. Nothing. She marched across the bedroom, pulled the covers back from the bed and shook Poppy’s shoulder. Poppy rolled over and opened her eyes. “Poppy, time to get up.” Poppy blinked. It was no good, she couldn’t hear anything. Her mother stared and mouthed…something. She pointed to the mirror. Poppy walked over and her mouth dropped. She had lost her listening ears. There, on her head, where once two ears had stuck out proudly, there…

Appliqué Lampshades
I have been meaning to recover 2 plain lampshades I had for our gym for a while and recently got round to doing it. I knew I wanted a mountain-scape as eventually I want to paint a mountain motif on the wall and I challenged myself to use only materials I already had.
