Author Interview – D. L. Lewellyn

This month, I caught up with author of the Starlight Chronicles series, D. L. Lewellyn. She writes paranormal shifter romance set in the US and also runs her own author blog.

Hi there, great to chat with you today. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi Gemma, Thank you so much for inviting me for a chat! I’m super excited to share a Q&A with you on my blog as well. I love exchanging interviews.

A little about me. I started writing fiction three years ago due to circumstances brought about by the pandemic. I spent the summer of 2020 reading and discovering the world of supernatural romance. I ended the year by logging 180 books on Goodreads (many were series like the 12 books in the Afterlife series by Stephanie Hudson). My passion for writing fantasy romance filled with every kind of character the imagination can produce blossomed, and I haven’t stopped writing since.

To put this phenomenon (which is how I like to refer to it 😄) into perspective, I’m rapidly approaching sixty. I’ve had decades to explore many avenues of creativity. I’m an avid knitter, crocheter, cross stitcher, and diamond painter with so many WIPs in each craft that your head would spin if I gave you numbers. I’m also a planner junkie and even took my niece to PlannerCon in 2019. I have a huge Ancestry tree I’ve been building for years. I explored mixed media art and Zentangle for over a decade. Each of these activities brought endless benefits, amazing mentors and teachers, and lively communities.

Yet writing tops it all. I’ve never been so dedicated to getting a craft right, or willing to risk the emotional roller coaster ride that writing has brought me. I’ve loved every minute of it since and it’s my biggest motivation for getting up in the morning.

I’m fortunate to have a wonderful husband of 33 years who has let me indulge in all of these things and has been a big part of the journey. I recently retired as a paralegal in state government and we enjoy life on two acres in the high desert of northern Nevada.

Wow that sounds like an active life, and it’s great to meet someone who shares my loves of writing, crafting and planning! Why did you choose to write paranormal shifter romance?

My stories involve supernatural or paranormal fantasy and sometimes science fiction, all steeped in romance. Romance is my first passion. (GC: I can tell from your Goodreads history!)

To sum up what I love most about writing these types of stories… Romance with a capital R and sexy alpha males, multi-layered loveable heroines, drawing from the endless variety of beings in the worlds of fantasy and science fiction, and to mix and match it all.

Tell me more about the Starlight Chronicles series.

In The Starlight Chronicles series, Selena Aires is an artist who leaves the city for a small town in the mountains. She finds the perfect artist bungalow with trails right out her back door. But when she visits a local pub called the Starlight, her journey into another world hiding within the world of humans begins. It all starts the day Andras Johns rides up on his Harley and gets introduced to her on the porch of the Starlight. It expands beyond the town of Quincy and the Sierra Nevada Mountains and takes us north to Alaska and beyond. It involves a menacing race called the Anurashin, fascinating new friends, three irresistible alpha males, and tough decisions about which path is the right one for Selena… and humanity.

And I always love finding out more about the inspiration behind the author, which other authors do you love?
